Georgia: Tbilisi and the Majestic Caucasus

Board your evening flight from Tbilisi International Airport, the gateway to Georgia’s historic capital. After clearing immigration, meet your local representative and transfer to the hotel. The rest of the day is at leisure, giving you time to rest after the journey or enjoy a quiet evening walk near your hotel.

Tbilisi, founded in the 5th century, has long been a crossroads of Europe and Asia. Over the next few days, you’ll discover its winding cobblestone streets, centuries-old churches, and vibrant culture — but for now, relax and prepare for the adventure ahead. Overnight stay in Tbilisi.

After breakfast, begin your day in Old Tbilisi, starting from Freedom Square and walking past the charming Clock Tower, the modern Bridge of Peace, and Rike Park. From here, visit the Metekhi Virgin Mary Assumption Church, dramatically located on a cliff above the River Mtkvari. Built in the 13th century, it once served as both a fortress and the residence of Georgian kings.

Next, ride the cable car across the river to reach Narikala Fortress, often called the “Mother Fortress of Tbilisi,” where sweeping city views await. Continue into the historic Abanotubani sulfur bath district, known as the birthplace of Tbilisi.

Later, enjoy a relaxed walk on Rustaveli Avenue, the city’s main boulevard, followed by some free time for shopping. In the evening, ride the Funicular up to Mtatsminda Park for lovely views and leisure time before returning to your hotel.

Overnight stay in Tbilisi.

This morning, set off for the Kakheti region, Georgia’s famous wine country. Your first stop is Sighnaghi, often called the “City of Love.” Perched on a hilltop, it is surrounded by 18th-century walls and towers, with views stretching across the Alazani Valley to the Caucasus mountains.

Continue to the Bodbe Monastery, a peaceful 9th-century convent where Saint Nino, the woman credited with bringing Christianity to Georgia, is buried. The monastery’s gardens and vantage points offer moments of quiet reflection.

Later, enjoy a visit to a local winery. Kakheti is known as the “cradle of wine”, where traditional winemaking in clay vessels called qvevri has been practiced for over 8,000 years. Learn about this UNESCO-listed tradition and sample some of the region’s finest wines before returning to Tbilisi for the night.

After breakfast, depart for Mtskheta, one of the oldest cities in Georgia and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Visit the hilltop Jvari Monastery, a 6th-century masterpiece of early Christian architecture, offering stunning views of the confluence of the Aragvi and Mtkvari rivers. Then, explore the Svetitskhoveli Cathedral, revered as the burial place of Christ’s robe and a spiritual center for centuries.

From here, drive along the scenic Georgian Military Highway into the mountains. Stop at the Ananuri Fortress, overlooking the turquoise Zhinvali Reservoir, and admire its medieval towers and churches. Continue to the Friendship Monument in Gudauri, a striking mosaic built in 1983 with panoramic views over the Caucasus peaks. Arrive in Gudauri, a mountain resort town, for an overnight stay.

After breakfast, begin your journey into the stunning Kazbegi region, one of Georgia’s most scenic high-mountain destinations. At Stepantsminda, switch to a 4x4 jeep to ascend to the Gergeti Trinity Church, a 14th-century stone church set dramatically at 2,170 meters, with Mount Kazbek towering behind. This is one of Georgia’s most iconic sights and a photographer’s dream.

Later, continue to the impressive Dariali Gorge, a historic and strategic pass forming the natural border between Georgia and Russia. Known for its towering cliffs and deep valleys, the gorge has served as an important gateway through the Caucasus for centuries.

Return to Tbilisi for your overnight stay.

After breakfast, depart from Tbilisi and begin your journey toward Western Georgia. En route, stop at the beautiful Martvili Canyon, a stunning natural gorge known for its turquoise waters, moss-covered rock walls, and gentle boat rides through narrow passages. Once a bathing place for local nobles, today it offers a peaceful and scenic nature experience.

After enjoying the surroundings, continue the drive to the seaside city of Batumi. On arrival, check in to your hotel and spend the evening relaxing or taking a pleasant walk along Batumi Boulevard.

After breakfast, begin your Batumi city tour at Piazza Square, known for its striking mosaic artwork and European-style architecture. Continue to Medea Square and the Poseidon Statue, two of Batumi’s most iconic landmarks reflecting its blend of mythology and modern urban design.

Walk towards the moving Statue of Ali and Nino, a beautiful kinetic sculpture symbolizing an eternal love story between a Georgian girl and an Azerbaijani boy.

Later, drive to the Makhuntseti Waterfall, one of Adjara’s most picturesque spots. Surrounded by lush greenery, its cool cascading waters make it a refreshing nature stop loved by both locals and visitors.

Return to your hotel in Batumi.

On your final day, check out from your Batumi hotel and drive toward Kutaisi, once the ancient capital of Georgia. Your first stop is the Bagrati Cathedral, an 11th-century masterpiece that stands proudly on Ukimerioni Hill.

Arrive in Tbilisi by evening and visit the striking Chronicles of Georgia Monument, often called “Georgia’s Stonehenge.” Its towering pillars depict the country’s kings and biblical stories, offering a dramatic viewpoint over the Tbilisi Sea.

Later, transfer to the airport for your return flight, carrying with you wonderful memories of Georgia’s culture, history, and landscapes.
